Anyone who has tried to remove rust stains before can tell you , it isn't as simple as just spraying them with a pressure washer. Rust removal and rust stain treatment is a chemical process that requires the correct cleaners, knowledge, and equipment. Rust stains can be caused by any number of things but the results are always the same; huge brown stains everywhere.
Steer clear of over-the-counter rust removers and the desire to simply crank up the pressure and try blasting these stains away yourself. Most hardware store rust removal solutions are either complete snake oil, containing no where near the concentration of active chemicals needed to do more than slightly lighten the staining, or simply don't work at all. There are other rust removal products available that DO work, but contain harsh acids that attack the rust as well as everything else. These products are commonly misused and can cause permanent etching of concrete, and discoloration or damage to soft plastic surfaces, vinyl, and wood.
The source of the stain will determine what chemical and method will be most effective for the treatment of that specific area. In most cases these stains can be completely removed but in certain extreme cases, some residue may never come out completely. Only once we see the stain in person will be able to properly manage your expectations concerning removal.
